Our Story

This concept was developed by Dr. Hyde in 2019 and implemented into the current website and area by a multidisciplinary team of 10 students participating in the Cross Campus Capstone Classroom (C4) program at York University. Coming from diverse academic backgrounds, we bring together our skills in science, education, technology, business, and design to solve real-world challenges. Our shared goal is to create impactful solutions that make science more accessible to young learners. Our journey began with a challenge question:
"How can we leverage the resources of the Carswell Observatory to address inequalities in science education in public schools and educational spaces?"
We recognized that access to quality science education is not equal for all students. Many lack the opportunity to explore subjects like astronomy due to limited resources, outdated materials, or a lack of engagement with real-world scientific institutions. Our team set out to bridge this gap. As a response to this challenge question, we created this website designed specifically for students in grades 7 to 10.
The Allan I. Carswell Observatory is an incredible resource, and we want to ensure that more students—regardless of their background—know about it and can use it to explore the wonders of the universe. Additional resources have been added from other areas and we look forward to expanding this project with the help of our students and volunteers.
Through this project, we hope to empower young learners, support educators, and make science education more inclusive for all.
